Task box

A task box is a very systematic system used to set up a classroom for student's with autism. It is designed to help students learn and improve different skills. There are many different types of task box such as a sorting task. A sorting task can be a task where students are directed to match the objects into the right place. For example, plastic spoons and forks - students are supposed to sort them out in the right places of the basket matching the spoons and forks. That could be an example of a life skill because after washing dishes, we place the utensils in the proper area after being used. This lesson has taught me that i can do create different task box for my students to be able to learn and improve their skills.

Try harder

I learned a very valuable lesson this week about support. When times seem tough and you feel like giving up, family is always right by your side. Even the people you wouldn't think would be there for you will always be there no matter what. This seems to be the most difficult semester i have faced due to so many obstacles I'm trying to get through each day. I have never felt so stressed trying to cram everything all at once. I had so many goals that i wanted to achieve this semester, but i feel like i failed to meet my expectations. The only thing i can do is accept my mistakes and continue to try harder next time. I need to put in more effort and set my priorities straight by working on my time management. I have so much on my plate with being a full time student, part time associate, dance teacher and balancing other responsibilities. Right now, all i could think of is getting through the rest of the semester withe passing each of my classes and finally relax after four ...

IEP training - volunteer

This week I volunteered at an IEP training with a few of my classmates from ED215. We were all told to choose a day to help volunteer and to experience what it's like to attend an IEP meeting with professionals and parents who are concerned or learning about IEP for their child(ren). As a volunteer, we had many tasks to complete. We set up a table of refreshments that included pizza, pasta, mini muffins and water then another table full of papers that were to be passed around when parents arrived and we set up tables and chairs for the guests. It was a great experience because I learned so much within the three hours I volunteered from the presentation of guest speakers and the concerns of parents.

Expectations vs. reality

In the beginning of the semester i was so determined to reach my goals, mainly getting accepted into the School of Education, but sometimes life just happens. I didn't expect to be pregnant during college. Since the beginning of my pregnancy, everything changed physically, mentally and emotionally. I became tired each day or i wouldn’t feel good because of my morning sickness and it ruined my attendance in school. I felt like i never had enough energy to finish my homework or i would sleep longer than i should.   I realized that being pregnant at this time shouldn't stop me from accomplishing my goals. I decided that i would try my best to apply into SOE whether i make it or not, but at least I'm trying.   During the process of applying, i realized that my GPA didn't meet the requirement being a few points behind and i started to doubt myself like should i still continue and apply? I was so sad knowing my chances of getting accepted is very low, but i decided ev...

Confidence

This week's lesson is about confidence. I have never always been a really confident person, but i realized that thinking negative won't ever get me any further. I need to believe in myself and think more on the positive side. Day by day, I'm gaining more confidence in myself hoping for the best. Ever feel like you know what you're doing and you know you're doing just fine, but when it actually happens you start to panic, become nervous and forget about being confident? That's me this semester! I have always felt determined with completing the semester with a satisfying mood, but this time it's completely the opposite feeling. The feeling of failure and disappointment as if I'm not growing into a better student.

Lesson learned

I procrastinated in finishing my project for my nutrition class and completed it at the last minute. I finished it two hours before it was due hoping i did it correctly even when i knew i was quite clueless in some parts. I didn’t expect for an A and sure enough when i got my paper back, my results were terrible. I was devastated. From there, i learned my lesson and told myself i wouldn’t ever procrastinate on my project ever again. A month later, i had another two projects due and this time i finished it days before and the outcome was amazing. I got A’s on both assignments. No words could explain how happy i was because it felt so good receiving a much better grade compared to the last one. Also, it was such a relief knowing i didn’t stress out as much as i did last month. It was the best feeling ever!

OLL vs. classroom

I had no idea what I was thinking to schedule myself in an OLL science course when it is also one of my weakest subjects. In the beginning, I told myself that I don't think it's a bad decision to take an OLL course this semester since I've experienced an OLL English course and a hybrid one too during my first year in college. I was completely wrong. I made the worse decision thinking I'd do great and enjoy the class, but unfortunately I didn't at all. The textbook for the class was very pricey and the amount of assignments seemed a little too much including lab. It wasn't that bad in the beginning till the course got too difficult for me. I thought I'd be able to handle it and earn an A, but I expected to much from myself.

Google site

This week, i learned how to create my google site for future references. My site includes a home page with a short introduction about myself and a picture, my creation of google docs ive created throughout the first couple of weeks of school, my google classroom, weekly blogs and other assigned assignments. I would be able to use this as a teacher to share information and documents to parents and teachers. This assignment allows me to use technology more and the ways it can help with teaching. I'm exciting with the outcome of my google site because there are so many things I'm able to do. I have the chance to choose my header and match the theme and  add a lot of information in each pages.

Five year plan

An assignment for my ED215 class, I was told to complete a five year plan starting from the semester  of fall 2017 to fall 2022. I currently completed 50-55 credits and I'm half way there. In the column fall 2017, I added education courses that I'm taking this semester along will admissions into SOE and praxis. I plan to apply into SOE hoping I get accepted so that I am able to take my upper division classes next semester. In the column spring 2018, I typed down five different 300 courses in case I get accepted. In the next columns, I included more requirements needed to graduate such as PRAXIS, education classes, student teaching and graduating. My expected graduation date is spring of 2020 and I plan to take a break before grad school.

Education Major

This is my fourth year in college and i wish i can say that it's also my senior year, but unfortunately i'm so close yet so far. My biggest goal for this semester is to apply into the SOE admissions and get accepted so that next semester i'm able to take my upper division classes and start my student teaching. I'm hoping to graduate in the next two years. As an education major, i plan to become a first grade teacher. This semester includes a lot of stress and determination. I am determined to meet my expectations of maintaining my GPA, passing my PRAXIS exams and applying into SOE. It's important that i get accepted because after this semester im done with my general requirements and my 300 and under classes. I'm ready to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals so that when the day comes, i can finally say "I did it"!
